Nebraska residents who are fans of singer Robin Thicke probably won't be surprised to learn that his wife, Paula Patton, filed for divorce this month. The couple has been separated for approximately eight months.
According to TMZ, Patton filed for the divorce in Los Angeles, citing "irreconcilable differences" and requesting joint custody of their 4-year-old boy. The split came on the heels of speculated infidelity on the part of Thicke and prompted the "Blurred Lines" singer to launch a very public campaign in order to win back his wife.
Thicke even released a music video for the song he wrote, "Get Her Back," which appears to be a revealing portrait of a marriage on the rocks and was much maligned by critics as Thicke sounding like a lovesick puppy.
Apparently, the marriage had fractured too much to be healed by the release of an album and video. Over the summer, Thicke told hosts of radio station Hot 97 in New York City, "I'm a man. I messed up, and I had to lie for awhile."
But the damage seems to be irreparable even after the singer renounced his lying and cheating ways. The couple were married in 2005, but had been together in a relationship since their teen years.
Given their long history and that this will certainly be a high asset divorce, there will be many valuable assets and resources for the couple to divide. Both of their interests and that of their son will be well-addressed by their respective attorneys, who likely will mediate matters first in an attempt to keep their private lives from being spotlighted by the media.
