Nebraska state ward seeks loving adoptive parents

In the state of Nebraska, there are over 200 children waiting in foster homes to find adoptive parents. Adopting a child is similar to casting a line in the sea and wondering what you will get. One young girl, currently in foster home, dreams of having the catch of a lifetime, a loving family.

The 17-year-old, an outdoorsy type, finds it hard to trust others due to a painful childhood, in which her parents failed her. She has been in and out of foster care, but not through her own wrongdoings. Her biological parents' provided a hellish environment for her and she has grown up to be distrustful of others. The stories are too personal to share.

An avid fisher, she wishes she could find a loving set of parents by casting a wide line. One close ally, her adoption worker, has doggedly travailed in helping to find the perfect fit for this determined ward of the state.

She describes the 17-year-old as light-hearted young woman, full of laughter, with a religious side. She has a job and does well in school. She needs to be in a home with a caring family who will help her move forward into adult life. When she turns 18, she will no longer be able to stay in the system. She will be set free. It is her worker's hope that they will find a family for her soon. So many children raised in foster care end up in jail, homeless, or addicted to drugs.

Those having a strong support system have better odds. The worker wants her ward to have a life where she can thrive, grow and be a successful member of society.

In Nebraska there are agencies that counsel and assist families to adopt children. It can be a long and painful proess. But there are resources out there that can help any individual or couple contemplating adopting a child and the steps involved in this endeavor. If you are looking for a child to enrich your family, it is in the best interests of everyone involved to investigate all options and seek help in interpreting the legal requirements for adoption.
